Corbridge School Holidays 2026/27 and 2027/28: Term Dates and Training Days
Northumberland school holiday dates for 2026/27 and 2027/28 as they apply to Corbridge, with the teacher training days shared by Corbridge First, Corbridge Middle, Broomhaugh and Queen Elizabeth High School, and ideas for the holidays.
Schools in Corbridge follow the term dates set by Northumberland County Council, and the village's schools also share the same teacher training days as the rest of the Hexham partnership of schools. That makes planning simpler than in many places: a family with one child at the first school and another at the middle school or high school should find their days off line up.
This guide brings together the council's dates for the rest of the 2026/27 school year and for 2027/28, the training days for the Corbridge schools, and some ideas for filling the holidays locally.
Which schools does this cover?
Corbridge has a three-tier system:
- Corbridge CofE First School on St Helen's Lane, for ages three to nine
- Broomhaugh CofE First School in Riding Mill, which is federated with Corbridge First
- Corbridge Middle School on Cow Lane, for ages nine to 13
- Queen Elizabeth High School in Hexham, where most Corbridge pupils go at 13
Our schools in Corbridge guide covers each school, admissions and getting to school in more detail.
Corbridge First and Broomhaugh are voluntary aided church schools, and Queen Elizabeth High School is an academy. Schools of these types are not obliged to follow the council's calendar. For 2026/27, though, the council's own list of teacher training days shows all four schools on the same pattern as the rest of the Hexham partnership, so in practice the dates below apply to all of them. Always check your school's newsletter or website, as the council itself advises.
Northumberland school holidays 2026/27
These are the council's dates for the current school year. The October half term has already passed.
| Holiday | Last day before the break | Schools reopen |
|---|---|---|
| Christmas | Friday 18 December 2026 | Monday 4 January 2027 |
| February half term | Friday 12 February 2027 | Monday 22 February 2027 |
| Easter | Thursday 25 March 2027 | Monday 12 April 2027 |
| May half term | Friday 28 May 2027 | Monday 7 June 2027 |
| Summer | Wednesday 21 July 2027 | Monday 6 September 2027 |
Schools are also closed on the May Day bank holiday, Monday 3 May 2027.
Teacher training days for the Corbridge schools
Each school has five teacher training days a year, when pupils stay at home. The council's list for 2026/27 gives the same five days for Corbridge First, Broomhaugh, Corbridge Middle and Queen Elizabeth High School:
| Date | Notes |
|---|---|
| Tuesday 1 September 2026 | First day of the autumn term (passed) |
| Friday 23 October 2026 | Before October half term (passed) |
| Monday 19 July 2027 | End of the summer term |
| Tuesday 20 July 2027 | End of the summer term |
| Wednesday 21 July 2027 | End of the summer term |
Best for:
Because the last three days of the summer term are training days, the last day in school for pupils at the Corbridge schools is likely to be Friday 16 July 2027, rather than the council's term end of Wednesday 21 July. Hexham Middle School, Hexham First School and Slaley First School share the same pattern, which helps if you have children at more than one school.
Northumberland school holidays 2027/28
The council has also published its calendar for 2027/28:
| Holiday | Dates |
|---|---|
| Autumn term starts | Monday 6 September 2027 |
| October half term | Monday 25 to Friday 29 October 2027 |
| Christmas | Monday 20 December 2027 to Monday 3 January 2028 (back Tuesday 4 January) |
| February half term | Monday 14 to Friday 18 February 2028 |
| Easter | Monday 10 to Friday 21 April 2028 (back Monday 24 April) |
| May Day bank holiday | Monday 1 May 2028 |
| May half term | Monday 29 May to Friday 2 June 2028 (back Monday 5 June) |
| Summer | Last day of term Thursday 20 July 2028 |
The calendar shows 192 days. Two are non-teaching days within those dates, and each school chooses three more of its own, so pupils will be in school for 190 days. The training days for 2027/28 have not yet been published, and the council expects schools to reopen after the summer on Monday 4 September 2028.
Holidays in term time
Northumberland County Council's guidance is that a family holiday during term time is unlikely to be authorised as an absence. Requests go to the headteacher, who can only agree leave in exceptional circumstances. Unauthorised absence can lead to a penalty notice, so it is worth booking around the dates above where you can.
Childcare and holiday clubs
Corbridge Kids Club, based at the first school, runs breakfast and after-school care in term time only, so families who need cover in the holidays will need to look further afield. Our guides to after-school clubs and nurseries and childcare list the options.
Children who receive benefits-related free school meals may be eligible for Northumberland's Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme, which offers funded places at holiday clubs at Easter, in the summer and at Christmas. Ask your school, or email haf@northumberland.gov.uk.
Ideas for the holidays
Corbridge is a good base for a family holiday at home:
- Roman history: Corbridge Roman Town is a walk from the village centre, and English Heritage usually runs family activities there in the school holidays. See our guide to visiting the Roman town.
- Gardens and farms: Dilston Physic Garden is just across the river, and Brocksbushes Farm has a play barn and pick your own fruit in season.
- Swimming: Wentworth Leisure Centre in Hexham has pools and soft play.
- Reading: Corbridge Library on Hill Street is part of the county library service, which usually takes part in the Summer Reading Challenge.
- Outdoors: see our playgrounds guide and walks around Corbridge.
