Playgrounds in Corbridge
Corbridge's three parish council play areas at the Chains, the Parish Hall and Cragside, the new equipment agreed for 2026, and the bigger play parks a short trip away.
Corbridge has three public play areas, all looked after by Corbridge Parish Council: the Chains, the Parish Hall and Cragside. They are neighbourhood playgrounds rather than destination parks, ideal for a run-around after school or between cafe stops. All three are getting new equipment: in May 2026 the parish council accepted quotes from the play company Kompan for work at each site. For bigger play parks, Hexham and a farm play barn are a short drive away.
The Chains
The Chains play area is off St Helen's Street, beside a large playing field. The Great British Play Map lists it with the neighbouring Jubilee playground as two small play areas for younger and junior-age children. The parish council has agreed to replace the roundabout at the Chains with a new carousel.
The Parish Hall play area
The Parish Hall on St Helen's Street, pictured above, also has a play area. The council's May 2026 plans add two new pieces of equipment here, repair the existing Spica climbing unit and lay new safety surfacing under the toddler swings. The Parish Hall and Chains work together was quoted at £12,806 before VAT.
Cragside
The third play area is at Cragside, the housing estate on the edge of the village (not to be confused with the National Trust's Cragside near Rothbury). The council accepted a quote of £21,489 before VAT for a new play unit here, the largest single item in its 2026 play plans.
Best for: New equipment can take months to arrive and install after it is ordered, so some of this work may still be under way. The parish council's meeting minutes, published on its website, give the latest progress.

Hexham
Hexham, about four miles west, has two large play parks. The Sele, in the grounds behind Hexham Abbey, has recently had a major refurbishment and sits alongside a skate park and gardens. Tyne Green Country Park, by the river north of the town centre, has a big enclosed playground with a zip wire, and free parking. See hexham.live's guide to playgrounds in Hexham for more.
Brocksbushes Farm
Brocksbushes Farm, off the A69 just east of Corbridge, has an indoor play barn and an outdoor play area alongside its farm shop and cafe. Birthday parties can be booked.
