Best Beer Gardens in Corbridge

Where to drink outside in Corbridge: the Dyvels' big garden by the station, the Black Bull's garden up the steps, the Golden Lion, the Wheatsheaf, the Angel's front tables and the Wellington at Riding Mill.

CorbridgeVillage.live·

Corbridge has four pubs with gardens and one with tables out front. They are all a short walk apart, and there is one more pub with a big garden a few miles down the Tyne Valley at Riding Mill. This guide covers where to sit outside, which gardens take dogs, and which are easiest to reach by train. For the beer, rooms and history of each pub, see our guide to the best pubs in Corbridge.

Gardens can close in bad weather or for private events, and pub hours change through the year. Check with the pub before you make a special trip.

The Dyvels Inn

The Dyvels Inn on Station Road has the biggest garden in Corbridge, and it is the only pub on the south side of the Tyne. The garden sits beside the pub, with picnic benches on the grass and a covered seating area, so you can stay outside when it drizzles. The pub describes it as a large beer garden.

It is just yards from Corbridge station, so it is the obvious place to wait for a Tyne Valley train. Dogs are welcome, and the pub has four letting rooms. Its own listing says food is served from Wednesday to Sunday and advises booking. Published opening days vary between sources, so check before you go.

Best for: The biggest garden in the village, a few steps from the station.

The Black Bull

The Black Bull on Middle Street is a Chef & Brewer pub with a garden at the back, up a flight of steps from the pub. The steps make it a poor choice for pushchairs or anyone who struggles with stairs, but it is a quiet place to sit just off the village centre.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the garden. Food is served every day from 11.30am to 9pm, so you can eat outside on a long summer evening. CAMRA lists a local cask ale, Hadrian Border's Tyneside Blonde, among the regular beers.

Best for: A garden behind the Market Place, with food until 9pm every day.

The Golden Lion

The Golden Lion is on the corner of Hill Street and Princes Street, opposite the Town Hall. CAMRA's listing confirms it has a garden and welcomes dogs. It is a handy stop in the middle of the village if you are already in the shops.

Check the opening times before you go on a Sunday: the pub closes at 5pm.

Best for: A garden in the middle of the village, but closed on Sunday evenings.

The Wheatsheaf

The Wheatsheaf is on St Helen's Street, at the top of Watling Street at the northern end of the village. It reopened in 2026 under new owners, who say they want it to be family-friendly. CAMRA lists a garden and car parking, and dogs are welcome.

It is the furthest pub from the river, so it makes a good first or last stop if you are walking up from the Roman Town or out of the village towards Aydon. It also has live music, including acoustic sets and open mic nights.

Best for: A garden at the quiet north end of the village, with parking.

The Angel of Corbridge: tables out front

The Angel of Corbridge on Main Street has no garden, but it has south-facing outdoor seating at the front of the inn. On a sunny afternoon this is the best place in Corbridge to sit with a drink and watch the village go by. The Angel is only a few steps from the bridge, so you can walk down to the river with your drink when you've finished.

The bar and lounge are dog-friendly, and the inn serves local cask ales.

Best for: Not a garden, but the sunniest seat on Main Street.

Nearby: The Wellington, Riding Mill

A few miles east along the A695, The Wellington on Main Road in Riding Mill has a large beer garden and its own car park. It is a Chef & Brewer pub, like the Black Bull, and is a food-led pub, serving from 11.30am to 9pm on Sundays. CAMRA says the building dates back to the 16th century.

Riding Mill has its own station on the Tyne Valley line, one stop east of Corbridge, so you can visit both pubs by train in one afternoon.

Best for: A big country garden one stop down the line.

Tips for a garden pint in Corbridge

  • Go by train. The Dyvels is beside Corbridge station and the Wellington is a short walk from Riding Mill station, so you can leave the car at home.
  • Walk it off. From the Angel, the riverside path along the floodbank runs west towards the Devil's Water. See our walks around Corbridge for routes.
  • Bring the dog. Every garden in the village welcomes dogs. Our dog-friendly Corbridge guide covers cafes, shops and walks as well.
  • Sunday lunch outside. If it's warm enough, several of these pubs serve roasts. See our Sunday roast guide for times.
