Best Hotels in and Around Corbridge

Where to stay in Corbridge: the village inns with rooms, from the Angel and the Golden Lion to the Wheatsheaf and the Dyvels, plus country house hotels, golf and spa stays a short drive away.

CorbridgeVillage.live·

Corbridge does not have a large hotel, and that is part of its charm. What it has instead is a handful of old inns with rooms, all within a few minutes' walk of the Market Place or the station. If you want a spa, a golf course or a country house, there are several within a short drive. This guide covers both, starting in the village.

Every place below was checked on its own website in November 2026 and was taking bookings. Room numbers, prices and facilities change, so confirm the detail when you book. We have not included private B&Bs or holiday lets by name; Visit Northumberland lists the B&Bs, cottages and self-catering in and around the village.

Inns with rooms in the village

The Angel of Corbridge

The Angel of Corbridge is the big whitewashed inn on Main Street, and says it dates back to at least 1569. It is the largest place to stay in Corbridge, with ten traditional bedrooms and an apartment, and six of the rooms are dog-friendly. Downstairs there is a bar and restaurant. You can book through its website or by calling 01434 632119.

Good for: a central base with a proper restaurant, and travelling with a dog.

The Golden Lion

The Golden Lion is the Grade II listed stone pub on Hill Street, opposite the Town Hall. It has en-suite rooms above the pub, bookable direct through its website, and it holds an AA four-star Silver Inn rating along with AA awards for its breakfast and dinner. Call 01434 239348.

Good for: being right in the middle of the village, a few steps from the shops and cafes.

The Wheatsheaf

The Wheatsheaf on St Helens Street reopened under new owners on 30 May 2026, and its website lists six rooms upstairs. It is open daily from midday, and you can book a room online or on 01434 614143. The inn has its own car park, which is useful in a village where most central parking is on-street.

Good for: walkers and cyclists, and somewhere to leave the car.

The Dyvels Inn

The Dyvels Inn is a small country pub on Station Road, south of the river and close to Corbridge station. It has four letting rooms, a large beer garden and a traditional bar, and dogs are welcome. Food is served from Wednesday to Sunday, and the pub opens later in the day on Mondays and Tuesdays, so check times if you plan to eat there on arrival.

Good for: arriving by train on the Tyne Valley line, and a quieter spot over the bridge.

Best for:

The village inns are small, and at busy times (summer weekends, the Christmas Tree Festival in early December and rugby weekends at Tynedale) rooms go quickly. Book early, and ask about parking when you do.

Hotels a short drive away

The Beaumont Hotel, Hexham

If you want a town-centre hotel, the Beaumont is an independent Victorian townhouse hotel on Beaumont Street in Hexham, about four miles west of Corbridge and overlooking the Abbey and Sele park. Rooms have king-size beds and en-suite bathrooms, and the restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Parking is limited, so ask when you book. Hexham is one stop from Corbridge on the train.

The Duke of Wellington Inn, Newton

A few miles east of Corbridge, near Stocksfield, the Duke of Wellington Inn is a country inn in the hamlet of Newton with seven en-suite rooms named after Northumbrian rivers, plus Granary Cottage, which sleeps four. Its restaurant holds an AA Rosette, and the bar is open seven days a week.

Matfen Hall

North-east of Corbridge, beyond the A69, Matfen Hall is a country house hotel in its own estate with 63 bedrooms, an 18-hole championship golf course and a nine-hole course, and the Aurelius spa, which the hall says reopens on 2 November 2026 after a refurbishment. It is a popular wedding venue, so check availability around weekends.

Slaley Hall

South of Corbridge, Slaley Hall is an Edwardian mansion hotel set in around 1,000 acres of forest and countryside. It has 36 holes of golf, a spa and indoor pool, and three places to eat. Like Matfen, it hosts a lot of weddings and conferences.

A little further: Langley Castle

West of Hexham, near Haydon Bridge, Langley Castle Hotel is a genuine 14th-century castle in ten acres of woodland, around 25 minutes' drive from Corbridge. It is further than the others, but it makes a memorable base for exploring Hadrian's Wall.

Getting here and parking

Corbridge station is on the Tyne Valley line between Newcastle and Carlisle, about half a mile from the Market Place over the bridge, so the village inns are easy to reach without a car. If you drive, the free village car park on the south side of the bridge allows stays of up to 72 hours, while the centre streets are pay and display with a three-hour limit in the day. Our parking guide has the detail, and getting around Corbridge without a car covers trains and buses.
