Christmas in Corbridge 2026

The Christmas Tree Festival at St Andrew's, carols in the churchyard, festive menus, Christmas trees and the big days nearby in Hexham and Allendale: a guide to Christmas in Corbridge, with the confirmed 2026 dates.

CorbridgeVillage.live·

Christmas in Corbridge centres on one week in early December, when St Andrew's Church fills with well over a hundred decorated trees and the whole village comes out to see them. Around that there are carols in the churchyard, festive menus in the old coaching inns, and bigger events a few miles away in Hexham. This guide brings the season together, with the dates confirmed for 2026 and a note of what has not been announced yet.

The Christmas Tree Festival

The highlight of the village year is the Corbridge Christmas Tree Festival at St Andrew's Church on the Market Place. In 2026 it runs from Friday 4 to Tuesday 8 December:

  • Friday 4 and Saturday 5 December: 9.30am to 6pm
  • Sunday 6 December: 11.30am to 5pm
  • Monday 7 December: 9.30am to 8pm
  • Tuesday 8 December: 9.30am to 4.30pm

Trees are dressed by parish groups, local businesses and schools, and refreshments are served from 10am to 4pm. Entry is free, with donations invited. The festival has grown into one of the biggest in the region: in 2025 it had 125 trees and around 11,000 visitors, and raised about £14,000.

Groups and businesses that want to decorate a tree need to return an entry form by 15 November. Details are on the church website.

Late-night shopping

Corbridge has traditionally held a late-night shopping evening during festival week, with stalls, music and carol singers in the streets around the Market Place. No date had been announced for 2026 when we checked on 3 November. The festival stays open until 8pm on Monday 7 December, so that evening is worth watching for, but check with the shops before you plan around it.

Christmas lights

No Corbridge lights switch-on event had been announced for 2026 at the start of November. The nearest big switch-on is in Hexham, where the town council turns on the lights on Friday 20 November 2026, a week after the Hexham Lantern Parade on Friday 13 November.

Carols and Christmas services

St Andrew's has published its full Christmas programme for 2026:

  • Sunday 13 December, 4pm: River at Advent, an informal gathering for all ages that begins with refreshments
  • Sunday 20 December, 6.30pm: Carols for All in the Churchyard, about 45 minutes with a brass ensemble (inside the church if wet)
  • Christmas Eve, 2pm: Crib Service for families
  • Christmas Eve, 6.30pm: Festival of Lessons and Carols by candlelight
  • Christmas Eve, 11pm: Midnight Communion
  • Christmas Day: Holy Communion at 8am and an All Age Family Communion at 10am, with a 9am service at Halton

The church also hosts a Christmas concert by Ryton Choral Society on Saturday 12 December at 3pm.

Christmas fairs and markets

Corbridge's nearest Christmas fair is the Brocksbushes Christmas Fayre, a few minutes east of the village, from Thursday 12 to Sunday 15 November 2026. It is ticketed, with free parking. In Hexham, the big day is the Christmas Fair at Hexham Abbey on Saturday 12 December, 9am to 3pm. Our guide to Christmas markets in and around Corbridge has the full list.

Eating and drinking

The Black Bull on Middle Street serves a three-course Festive Spread from 12 November to 24 December 2026 at £34, and takes Christmas party bookings for it. Its Christmas Day menu is £86 for three courses, with a deposit to book. The village's other inns and cafes publish their own festive menus, so check with them directly and book early for December weekends.

For parents, the Annual Corbridge Christmas Soirée is at Tynedale RFC on Station Road on Saturday 19 December 2026, with doors at 5.30pm, dinner and a DJ.

Christmas trees

Corbridge has no tree yard of its own, but there is a seasonal pitch on Tyne Green in Hexham and a garden centre selling real trees at Mickley, both about 10 minutes away. In January, Tynedale Hospice at Home collects trees from Corbridge doorsteps for a donation. Our guide to Christmas trees in Corbridge has where to buy, care tips and recycling options.

Boxing Day and New Year

On Boxing Day the Tynedale Hunt traditionally meets in Corbridge Market Place at about 11am, which draws a crowd. Check locally nearer the day for 2026 arrangements.

New Year's Eve belongs to Allendale, about 14 miles south-west, where the Tar Bar'l procession carries burning barrels through the village before the bonfire is lit at midnight. It is free and needs no booking, but it gets busy, so arrive early and plan your lift home, as there are no trains to Allendale.

Getting around

Corbridge station is on the Tyne Valley line, with trains to Hexham and Newcastle. There are no trains on Christmas Day, and services usually finish early on Christmas Eve, so check Northern's festive timetable before you travel. The village centre is small and parking fills quickly during festival week, so walk in if you can.
