About Northumberland Joint Musculoskeletal and Pain Service (JMAPS)

The Northumberland Joint Musculoskeletal and Pain Service, known as JMAPS, is the NHS physiotherapy service for muscle, joint and back problems in Northumberland, run by Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. People aged 16 or over can self-refer without seeing a GP first, either by calling 03301 244 652 or, for adults over 18, through the online self-referral form on the trust's website.

After referral, a member of the team books a telephone assessment with a chartered physiotherapist. Face-to-face clinics are held at community hospitals and health centres across the county, including Hexham General Hospital, and patients are offered the nearest location where possible. A GP referral is needed for conditions that require specialist assessment or for persistent pain.
