Working Remotely in Corbridge
Where to work away from home in Corbridge: the village library with Wi-Fi, cafes for a laptop and a coffee, meeting rooms at the Parish Hall, and Hexham Library for longer days.
Plenty of people in Corbridge work from home for some or all of the week, and the village is a pleasant place to do it. There is no coworking space in the village, though, and the options for a change of scene are modest: a small library that opens three days a week, a handful of cafes and pubs, and rooms to hire for meetings. Hexham, one stop up the line, adds a bigger library with longer hours.
This guide sets out what we could confirm in November 2026. We only say a place has Wi-Fi where its own website or the council says so. Everywhere else, ask on arrival.
Corbridge Library
Corbridge Library on Hill Street is the best place in the village for a quiet, focused session. It is a Northumberland County Council branch library, open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 3pm, and closed the rest of the week.
The council lists free Wi-Fi, public computers with internet access and Microsoft Office, and black and white or colour printing and photocopying at A4. The public computers switch off 15 minutes before closing, so don't leave printing until the last minute. You can contact the library on 01434 632815.
Best for:
Best for: a quiet morning with Wi-Fi and printing, three days a week. Check the council's library pages for holiday closures before you go.
Cafes and pubs with a laptop
Corbridge's cafes are small, independent and often busy, especially at lunchtime and on summer weekends. None of the cafe websites we checked mention Wi-Fi or power sockets, so treat them as places for an hour with a coffee rather than a full working day, and ask the staff if the Wi-Fi is available before you settle in.
- Tea & Tipple on the Market Place is a popular cafe for light lunches, scones, cakes and coffee.
- Watling Coffee House, on the corner of Watling Street and Hill Street, has served homemade scones, soups and quiches for more than 40 years.
- Coffuffle on Middle Street is a small coffee and chocolate truffle shop with its own house coffee blend.
- Grant's Bakery on the Market Place has seating overlooking the square.
- The Corbridge Larder on Hill Street has a small sit-down cafe upstairs above the deli, open from 9.30am on weekdays.
Our guide to coffee shops and cafes in Corbridge covers them all in more detail.
Early starts and later finishes
If you need to start before the cafes open, the Angel of Corbridge on Main Street serves breakfast from 7.30am on weekdays and 8am at weekends. Over the bridge near the station, the Dyvels Inn is the one place in the village whose own website lists free Wi-Fi. It opens in the afternoon on Mondays and Tuesdays and from midday the rest of the week, so it suits an afternoon session or a quiet hour after a train.
A good rule in any of these: buy something every hour or so, avoid the lunchtime rush, and free up the table if it gets busy.
Meeting rooms to hire
Corbridge Parish Hall
When you need to meet a client, run a workshop or hold a team day, Corbridge Parish Hall on St Helen's Street is the obvious choice. It is run by the parish council and has a main hall for up to 150 people, plus two smaller rooms, the Mearns Room and Room One, which each hold 30. There is a kitchen too.
Rooms are hired by the hour, between 8am and 11.30pm from Sunday to Thursday and until 12.30am on Fridays and Saturdays. To book, contact the parish clerk at clerk@corbridge-pc.gov.uk or on 07950 297634, and ask about Wi-Fi and equipment when you do.
Corbridge Community Hub
The former Methodist church on Princes Street is now the Corbridge Community Hub, run by the Corbridge Community Partnership charity. It already hosts groups, a Warm Welcome Cafe and Tea and Chat afternoons. The partnership's plans to transform the building include office, meeting and social spaces, which could one day give the village somewhere to work. For now there are no bookable desks, but it is worth asking the partnership about room use.
A longer day in Hexham
For a full working day, Hexham Library is the nearest library open every weekday. It is inside the Queen's Hall on Beaumont Street (NE46 3LS), and the council lists library PCs and Wi-Fi. When we checked, it was open:
- Monday and Friday: 9am to 6pm
- Tuesday to Thursday: 9am to 5pm
- Saturday: 9.30am to 5pm
- Sunday: closed
Hexham is one stop from Corbridge on the Tyne Valley line, and several buses run between the two. See getting around Corbridge without a car for times and fares.
What about coworking?
We could not find a coworking space with bookable desks in Corbridge, and we could not confirm one currently open in Hexham. If you need a regular desk outside your home, ask at the Community Hub about its plans, or look further afield in Newcastle, about 40 minutes away by train.
A suggested working week
- Wednesday, Friday or Saturday: a morning at Corbridge Library, then lunch at a cafe in the village.
- Monday, Tuesday or Thursday: take the train to Hexham and spend the day at Hexham Library.
- For a meeting: book a room at the Parish Hall.
