CorbridgeVillage.live·

Corbridge has two tiers of local government. Northumberland County Council runs most public services. Corbridge Parish Council looks after village matters and speaks for residents. Knowing which one to contact saves a lot of time.

Northumberland County Council

Northumberland County Council is the unitary authority for the whole county, based at County Hall in Morpeth. It's responsible for:

  • bin collections and recycling
  • roads, pavements and street lighting
  • planning applications and building control
  • council tax and benefits
  • schools, admissions and school transport
  • adult and children's social care
  • libraries, including Corbridge Library

Most things can be reported or applied for online at northumberland.gov.uk, which gives you a reference number to track. This includes potholes, fly-tipping, broken streetlights and missed bins. The council's main phone line is 0345 600 6400.

Bins and recycling

Use the council website to look up your collection days by postcode. Garden waste collection is a separate, paid subscription that covers 20 collections a year between March and November. Sign up on the council website before the season starts.

The tip

The nearest household waste recovery centre is in Hexham, on the Bridge End Industrial Estate (NE46 4DL). Bring:

  • a permit, if you're arriving in a van or other large vehicle, or bringing DIY waste in any vehicle
  • proof that you live in Northumberland, as the sites are for residents only

Opening hours change with the seasons and in bad weather, so check the council's household waste recovery centre pages before you set off.

Planning

Planning applications for Corbridge are decided by the county council and published on its online planning register, where you can read the plans and comment. The parish council is consulted on applications in the parish and discusses them at its monthly meetings. Corbridge has a conservation area covering the historic centre, so stricter rules apply to work on buildings there.

Library

Corbridge Library on Hill Street is one of the county's branch libraries. It's open on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10am to 3pm, with public computers, Wi-Fi and printing. Phone 01434 632815.

Corbridge Parish Council

Corbridge Parish Council is the first tier of local government for the civil parish. As well as Corbridge village, the parish takes in Aydon, Dilston, Linnels and Portgate. It has ten councillors, elected for four-year terms.

The parish council:

  • looks after the village's three public play areas, at the Chains, the Parish Hall and Cragside (see our playgrounds guide)
  • manages bookings for Corbridge Parish Hall
  • supports Corbridge in Bloom
  • comments on planning applications
  • passes residents' concerns to the county council

Meetings

The council meets at 7pm in Room One at Corbridge Parish Hall on St Helen's Street, usually on a Wednesday near the end of the month. There's no meeting in August. The remaining meetings in 2026 are on Wednesday 25 November and Wednesday 16 December.

Members of the public are welcome and get a chance to speak about village concerns. Agendas, minutes, financial reports and policies are published on the council's website, corbridge-pc.gov.uk.
