EV Charging in Corbridge

Where to charge an electric car in and around Corbridge: the Hill Street and Main Street points in the village, rapid chargers in Hexham, the A69, prices, connectors and the home charging grant.

CorbridgeVillage.live·

Corbridge has a small number of public chargers in the village itself, all of them slow or fast rather than rapid. For a quick top-up you need to go to Hexham, about four miles west, where there are several rapid hubs. This guide sets out what is where, what it costs and how to pay, as listed on Zapmap on 4 November 2026.

Chargers break down and prices change often, so check the Zapmap app for live status before you set off.

Charging in the village

Hill Street

The most reliable public charger in Corbridge is on Hill Street (NE45 5AA), in the village centre near Corbridge Library and the Town Hall. Zapmap lists it as:

  • Network: EV Charge.Online
  • Chargers: one unit with two Type 2 sockets at up to 22kW
  • Price: 57p per kWh when we checked

Bring your own Type 2 cable. A 22kW socket only charges at that speed if your car's onboard charger supports it, and most cars take 7kW or 11kW on AC, so think of this as a charge while you shop or eat rather than a fill-up.

Main Street

Visit Corbridge says there are public charging spaces at the east end of Main Street as well as on Hill Street. In 2022 Northumberland County Council named Corbridge Main Street as one of seven sites in a pilot of on-street chargers, supplied by Connected Kerb and funded through the government's On-street Residential Chargepoint Scheme. The Hexham Courant reported that these were "mostly suited to overnight charging", aimed at residents without a driveway.

When we checked, the Main Street points did not appear on Zapmap's public Corbridge listing, so check the app and the bay signs before relying on them.

Best for:

Parking rules still apply while you charge. The village centre streets are pay and display with a three-hour limit from 9am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday. Our parking guide has the detail.

Rapid charging in Hexham

Hexham has the nearest rapid chargers, all within about ten minutes' drive of Corbridge along the A69.

A few notes on each:

  • Wentworth car park is the council's big car park in the middle of Hexham, a short walk from the shops and the Abbey. With nine charging devices it is the largest hub nearby. Pay with the Fuuse app or Zap-Pay.
  • Wentworth Leisure Centre is next door, so you can charge during a swim or a class.
  • Tyne Valley Retail Park has the only 150kW chargers in the Hexham area. Pay with the Be.EV app, Zap-Pay or Be.EV's web payment page.
  • Tesco Extra Hexham had the lowest listed rapid rate, at 49p/kWh when we checked. Zapmap notes a 50p connection fee if you pay with Zap-Pay.

The A69 corridor

Heading west towards Carlisle, there is a BP Pulse hub on the A69 at Henshaw, near Bardon Mill (NE47 7EL). Zapmap lists one unit with two 150kW CCS connectors, at 89p/kWh, payable by card or the bp pulse app. It is pricier than Hexham, but useful if you are driving the length of Hadrian's Wall country.

Heading east towards Newcastle, we could not find a public rapid charger on the A69 itself between Corbridge and the city's western edge. If you are travelling east, top up in Hexham first or plan a stop in Newcastle using the Zapmap route planner.

Slower chargers nearby

Zapmap also lists slower public chargers in the villages and hotels around Corbridge, useful if you are staying or visiting rather than passing through:

  • Riding Mill: one fast charger at Whiteside Bank (NE44 6DT), on EV Charge.Online.
  • Stocksfield: two slow chargers at Newton and Bywell Community Hall (NE43 7UL), and a fast charger at the Stocksfield sports fields, both on EV Charge.Online.
  • Hexham: two 7kW chargers at Giles Gate car park (NE46 3QF).
  • Hotels: the Beaumont in Hexham, Slaley Hall and Langley Castle all have slow chargers listed. These are usually intended for guests, so ask first.

Charging at home

If you have off-street parking, charging at home on a domestic tariff usually costs far less per kWh than the public rates above. There is help with the cost of a home chargepoint, but only for some households. GOV.UK's electric vehicle chargepoint grant gives 75% off the cost of buying and installing a socket, up to £500, if you rent your home or own a flat, and have your own private off-street parking space. Homeowners who live in a house cannot apply. Landlords have a separate grant. Check the full eligibility rules on GOV.UK before you book an installer.

If you live in one of Corbridge's older terraces with no driveway, do not trail a cable across the pavement without checking Northumberland County Council's rules first. The Main Street on-street points were installed with residents like you in mind, so check whether they are working before you buy.
