Dog Groomers near Corbridge

Where to get your dog groomed if you live in Corbridge: salons in Hexham and a farm-based groomer in Hexhamshire, what each offers, and tips on booking a first groom.

CorbridgeVillage.live·

Corbridge has plenty of dogs but, as far as we can confirm, no established grooming salon in the village itself. Most owners drive the three or four miles to Hexham, which has several groomers, from a long-running town-centre salon to one-to-one groomers working from home and farm premises. This guide lists the groomers we could verify, what they offer and how to contact them. Prices and availability change, so ring or message before you book.

Grooming salons in Hexham

K9 Clip Joint

K9 Clip Joint on Hencotes, near the Abbey end of Hexham town centre, has been grooming dogs for around 25 years. It offers bathing, clipping, hand-stripping, de-matting and nail clipping. It takes bookings by phone on 01434 600735 and posts updates on its Facebook page.

Its groomer holds the iPET Level 3 qualification, and the salon offers full grooms, bath and brush, nail trims, ear cleaning, teeth cleaning and spa treatments. It opens Monday to Friday from 9am to 5.30pm and on Saturday from 9am to 3pm, and there is parking behind the salon.

Pets at Home

The Pets at Home store at Tyne Valley Retail Park in Hexham has advertised for dog groomers for its in-store grooming salon. Check the Pets at Home website for current grooming availability at Hexham before you go.

One-to-one groomers

Some dogs find a busy salon stressful. A one-to-one groomer sees one dog at a time, which can suit nervous, elderly or reactive dogs.

Doggy Hair by Amanda Clare

Doggy Hair by Amanda Clare works from a salon on a family farm at High Eshells in Hexhamshire, a little over ten minutes' drive south of Hexham. Amanda holds a City and Guilds Advanced Level 3 qualification in dog grooming (2010). Services include nail trims, bath and blow-dry, deshedding, full grooms, hand-stripping and breed styling, and ultrasonic dental care is offered to existing customers.

Groomer on the Green

Groomer on the Green is a small home-based groomer near Tyne Green in Hexham, trading since 2024. It specialises in hand-stripping for wire-coated breeds such as terriers, and the groomer is qualified to iPET Level 3 and in canine first aid. Bookings are by phone or through its Facebook page; the exact address is given when you book.

Best for:

Hand-stripping removes dead hair from wire coats by hand rather than clipping it, which keeps the coat's texture and colour. If you have a wire-coated breed such as a Border Terrier, ask whether the groomer hand-strips before you book.

Booking a first groom

  • Puppies: many groomers suggest a short introductory visit once your puppy has finished its vaccinations, so it gets used to the noise of dryers and being handled.
  • Vaccinations: salons usually ask for your dog to be up to date. Your vet, such as Westway Vets in Corbridge or Orchard House Vets in Hexham, can confirm what your dog has had.
  • Matted coats: if your dog's coat is badly matted, say so when you book. A groomer may need to clip it short rather than brush it out, for the dog's comfort.
  • Health and temperament: tell the groomer about skin conditions, lumps, nervousness or anything that has upset your dog at a previous groom.
  • Timing: a full groom for a larger or long-coated dog can take several hours. Ask when to drop off and collect.

After the groom

A clean dog is a good excuse for a walk. Our dog-friendly Corbridge guide covers riverside and countryside walks, the pubs and cafés that welcome dogs, and the rules around livestock and nesting birds.
