Charity Shops in Corbridge and Nearby Hexham
Corbridge's one charity shop, Fawcett & Russell on the Market Place, plus the Tynedale Hospice, RSPCA and Relate shops four miles away in Hexham, with opening hours and where to drop off donations.
Corbridge has one charity shop, and it is a good one. For a proper charity shop crawl, though, you need to go four miles west to Hexham, where several charities have shops within a few minutes' walk of each other. This guide covers the village shop first, then the Hexham shops most useful to Corbridge residents, and finishes with where to take donations.
Opening hours below come from each charity's own website in November 2026. Charity shops rely on volunteers, so hours can change at short notice. Check before making a special trip.
In Corbridge
Fawcett & Russell
Fawcett & Russell is at 8 Market Place, run by Tynedale Hospice at Home. It opened in January 2025 and is more boutique than bric-a-brac, selling higher-end new and pre-loved homeware, clothing and accessories. The name comes from Ish Fawcett and Edith Russell, who founded the charity in Hexham in 1993 to care for people at the end of their lives in their own homes.
It opens seven days a week: Monday to Saturday 9.30am to 4.30pm, and Sunday 10am to 4pm. Good-quality donations can be handed in during opening hours, but the charity asks for larger drops to go to its Hexham furniture shop or Prudhoe distribution centre (see below).
Pre-loved, but not a charity shop
If you are after vintage rather than charity, Vintage at the Tower in Hillgate House on Hill Street sells pre-loved and vintage jewellery, handbags and accessories. It is an independent business rather than a charity, but it sits well alongside a visit to Fawcett & Russell. Our shopping in Corbridge guide covers the rest of the village's independents.
In Hexham
Hexham is about four miles west of Corbridge, ten minutes by car or a few minutes on the train. Go North East's 10 bus also links the two (see our guide to getting around Corbridge without a car). The shops below are all in or near the town centre, apart from the furniture shop on the north side of the river.
Tynedale Hospice at Home, Fore Street
The hospice's main Hexham shop, the Tynedale Hospice at Home shop, is at 35-37 Fore Street in the pedestrianised centre. It has the longest hours of the Hexham shops in this guide: Monday to Saturday 9.30am to 5pm, and Sunday 10am to 4pm. The charity also runs a bookshop a few doors along Fore Street, which is worth a look while you are there.
Tynedale Hospice at Home Furniture Shop
For tables, chairs, wardrobes and other bulky pieces, the Tynedale Hospice at Home Furniture Shop is on the Bridge End Industrial Estate, Anick Road (NE46 4DQ). It is on the Corbridge side of Hexham, close to the A69 and the bridge over the Tyne, so it is the easiest of the Hexham shops to reach by car. It opens Monday to Saturday 9.30am to 4.30pm, and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
RSPCA Charity Shop
The RSPCA charity shop at 4 Newmans Way, just off Battle Hill, is run by the RSPCA's Northumberland West Branch. The branch is a separate charity run by volunteer trustees and covers west Northumberland, Corbridge included. It says its shops are its main source of income, so money spent here goes to local animal welfare. The branch lists the shop as open Monday to Saturday 9.45am to 4pm, closed on Sundays.
Relate Charity Shop
The Relate charity shop is at 4 St Mary's Wynd, a lane in the town centre. It specialises in clothing: Relate asks for good-quality women's, men's and children's clothes, plus bags and shoes. It does not open every day, so phone 01434 602014 to check before you go.
Several other national charities also have shops in Hexham town centre. For the full picture, see hexham.live's guide to charity shops in Hexham.
Donating
- Small items: hand them in at Fawcett & Russell during opening hours, or at any of the Hexham shops above.
- Furniture and large items: Tynedale Hospice at Home asks people to use its Hexham furniture shop or its distribution centre in Prudhoe. Phone the furniture shop on 01434 447748 before bringing anything bulky.
- Gift Aid: most charity shops can claim an extra 25p on every pound your donations raise if you are a UK taxpayer and sign a Gift Aid form. Ask at the till.
- What not to bring: most shops cannot sell damaged clothing, electrical items without safety checks, or upholstered furniture without fire-safety labels. If in doubt, ask first.
Volunteering
Every shop here depends on volunteers. Tynedale Hospice at Home and the RSPCA Northumberland West Branch both advertise shop volunteering, and it is a sociable way to give a few hours a week. Ask in store or through each charity's website.
